Free steering wheel locks for Kia & Hyundai owners

Norfolk Police are giving away free steering wheel locks to Hyundai and Kia owners on Thursday, June 15th from 9am to 11am at the Wawa located at 975 E. Little Creek Road.

The anti-theft devices, also known as steering wheel locks, will be offered to help deter theft in the wake of a social media challenge on how to compromise Hyundai and Kia security features. Norfolk and other cities across the country have noted an increase in theft of Hyundai’s and Kia’s.

To qualify for a free lock, you must own a Kia/Hyundai vehicle with a steel key ignition, be a Norfolk resident, and present a valid vehicle registration. Push button ignition systems are not eligible.

Invitation to Larchmont Edgewater Civic League’s Memorial Day Parade & Ceremony

The Larchmont Edgewater Civic League invites everyone to their first-ever Larchmont Edgewater Memorial Day Parade & Ceremony on Monday, 29 May from 10:00am – Noon!

They’ll be celebrating our freedom with a fun neighborhood parade, and then Honor the Fallen with a brief ceremony. The parade starts at 10:00am at St. Patrick Catholic School and ends at Larchmont United Methodist Church, and at the end, they’ll have free hotdogs, ice cream, community info-booths, and a brief 11:30am wreath-laying ceremony. Mayor Alexander is the Grand Marshal of the parade and will preside over the ceremony as well.

There will be a number of other participants marching, including Scouts, Daughters of the American Revolution & Sons of the American Revolution (both, in period attire), Gorra the Goggled Great Dane Service Dog (riding in a car with a sunroof, where she will have her head sticking out and watching the crowd), American Legion Post 35, Lafayette River Circle of the Kings Daughters, classic cars, bagpipes/drums, a WWII jeep, Norfolk Fire, ODU Police, and local school kids marching and on bikes.  Additionally multiple elected officials and candidates for office will be marching, including:  Mayor Alexander, Councilwoman McClellan, Delegate Angelia Williams Graves, Delegate Candidate Andy Pittman, Delegate Candidate Phil Hernandez, and Norfolk Commonwealth Attorney, Ramin Fatehi.

If weather is a concern, they will make the go/no-go call on Sunday afternoon and let everyone know via their website, http://www.larchmontedgewater.org and their Facebook page, https://www.facebook.com/LarchmontEdgewaterCivicLeague/. They do ask that everyone refrain from parking along the route to give maximum room for safety and to optimally view the parade.

Come meet the new Chief of Police

Vice Mayor Thomas and Councilman Smigiel will be hosting a Community Meeting to introduce Norfolk’s new Chief of Police, Mark Talbot. The meeting will be held on June 6 at 6pm at Pretlow Library.

Ice Cream Social – June 19th

Rescheduled from June 12th due to weather.

For our June meeting, we are planning to once again forgo the actual meeting and invite all of our neighbors in Wards Corner to an informal ice cream social at the North Shore Playground. The event will start at our normal meeting time, 6:30pm. We should have plenty of daylight to work with that evening.

We hope you can join us for the fun!
